The history of writing instruments runs parallel to the history of civilization itself. The best proof of this is the various etchings man himself made on the walls of his cave — his very own effort at documenting the day-to-day events of his life.
With the emergence of ink and the development of papermaking in China in 105 A.D. the stage was set for the introduction of a writing instrument that would be able to utilize the benefits of these two inventions. For the longest time, over a thousand years to be exact, the writing pen that dominated the scene was the quill. From this humble quill arose the modern ballpoint pens that we know and use today.
